Q: How do I play?
A: The game is in Alpha testing. When we are done with Alpha testing, we will start public Beta testing. We will email people with accounts (so create one, it's free) and ask them to join the Beta test if they are selected.
Q: Should I create an account?
A: Yes. To be considered for a Beta tester slot or to access the forums and downloads you will need an account.
Q: Does creating an account get me in the beta?
A: Creating an account does not guarantee a spot in Beta, but it gives you a chance in the lottery. Even if you don't win in the lottery, you will have a second chance: we will select a handful of people for Beta based on their participation in the community.
Q: Will there be PvP (Player verses Player)?
A: At this time, there are no plans for PvP in the traditional sense of player killing (PK.) There are plans for player competition in the form of missions.
Q: Will there be guilds?
A: Yes. There certainly will be guilds. You will be able to follow your guild ranking against other guilds online, and even small guilds will be capable of being on the top of that list.
Q: Is character development skill-based or class-based?
A: A hybrid. There are skill categories and you can choose up to 2 of those areas initially. Later, you have the option to have up to 3 areas. Each area is similar to a class in that the skills are grouped based on a profession rather than another categorization. The progression of skills is linear in each area, but you can progress down more than one path at a time.
Q: What will the system requirements be?
A: We would like the game to be accessible to a wide audience. We don't know for certain what the end requirements will be. The game will require an internet connection and a video card that supports DirectX 9.0c. We'll provide more information when it's available.
Q: Is it possible to solo?
A: You will be able to solo your entire career in the game if you so choose. Grouping will provide greater rewards in terms of acquiring better items sooner. However, it will be both challenging and rewarding to solo if that's your preferred style of play.
Q: Do you have different challenge ratings or classifications of monsters?
A: Monsters in our system have levels, but that's it. There are no classifications of lieutenants or bosses or solo or group. In our game, a monster is a monster. You might call a monster a "boss" merely because that monster is abnormally powerful for the area it is in, but we won't label it as such. This means that when you determine what level a monster is, you know what to expect and there is no pondering whether that's a hard level 20 monster or an easy level 20 monster. That monster is hard if it's higher level than you and easier if it is lower level than you. Period.
Q: Will there be guild raids?
A: Not in the sense you may be accustom to. There will be no parties greater than six people on a mission, however some of the hardest missions will require great precision and teamwork -- in effect acting much like raids from other games. We are set upon rewarding skill rather than rewarding raiding groups with the most players in them.
Q: How important will items be?
A: Items will be fairly important. Acquiring the best items for your level will require you to work in a team and tackle difficult missions. You might later be able to acquire those items solo, but after those items are not as impressive for your current level.
Q: Will there be player/guild housing?
A: Yes. There are multiple wards, and each ward has housing available. The first ward (aka "Hallow Ground") has the most expensive player and guild housing.
Q: Will players be able to sell items to other players while off-line?
A: Yes. There are NPC consignment shops which you can use to sell items while you are off-line. Of course, shop keepers do take a small cut.
Q: When will Dusktreaders be released?
A: A release date has not been set. Stay tuned.
Q: Will there be a monthly fee?
A: Yes, after release. Beta is free.
